Conclusions: Yes folks, alternative 2 would cost about $8 million dollars more than Plan B, would destroy the character of the area, promote speeding, remove about 100 mature trees, and would only save about 27 seconds in travel time thru this beautiful and scenic area. 

       Mutilate the Area, to gain 27 Seconds....and burn $8 Million Dollars.

       It's Brains vs. Asphalt!

With Plan B, Manzanita Avenue can be improved to properly handle the forecasted traffic volume AND be:

1.      Accomplished without compromising the Environment.

2.      Accomplished without cutting down any of the specimen trees along the roadway.

3.      Accomplished without “taking” any significant areas from Bidwell Park.

4.      Accomplished and improve local air quality at the same time without any cost.

5.      Accomplished and improve local water quality.

6.      Accomplished and provide bike lanes throughout the corridor.

7.      Accomplished and provide safe joggers and pedestrians crossing of Manzanita.

8.      Accomplished and provide safe equestrian crossing of Manzanita Avenue.

9.      Accomplish all of these things and many more at a cost of less than 20% of  project cost now listed in  the City of Chico Capital Improvement Program.
