City of Chico Scenic Roads

Chico's general plan speaks to the designation of certain "Scenic Roads". Roads such as Valombrosa, 8th Street along the park, Centennial Avenue, and this section of Manzanita Avenue thru Bidwell Park.

The general plan indicates that Scenic Roads would be limited to two lanes of travel, and that they might not have typical curb and gutter treatment, presumably to maintain their rural and park-like look and feel.

Because these areas have little in the way of entering and exiting traffic, additional lanes do little to aid traffic throughput. Yet wider lanes increase a driver's tendency to speed.

Plan B does (by far) the best job of conforming to this general plan guideline.

Similarly, the general plan speaks to preserving the Character of neighborhoods and districts. Clearly Plan B does (by far) the best job of conforming to this general plan guideline.

Similar to the desire to preserve areas such as Downtown Chico, We believe that the roads along side of, and thru Bidwell Park deserve some special considerations! When possible, lets maintain the rural park feel that IS Chico!
